Milk production in Wisconsin during November 2023 totaled 2.58 billion pounds. This is up slightly from the previous November, according to the latest milk production report from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The average number of milk cows during November, at 1.27 million head, was unchanged from last month but down 1,000 from November 2022. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,035 pounds, up 5 pounds from last November.
Taking a look at the 24 major milk producing states, production totaled 17.3 billion pounds in November, down 0.5 percent from November 2022. Production per cow in those states averaged 1,948 pounds for November, 3 pounds below November 2022. The number of milk cows on farms in the 24 major States was 8.90 million head, 26,000 head less than November 2022, and 9,000 head less than October 2023.
The production of milk for the entire U.S. during November totaled 18.1 billion pounds, down 0.6 percent from November 2022.
Production per cow in the U.S. averaged 1,932 pounds for November, 2 pounds below 2022.
The average number of milk cows on farms in the U.S. was 9.36 million head, 44,000 head less than November 2022, and 10,000 head less than October 2023.
