Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom, recently announced Emily Kamps as the winner of the Outstanding Teacher Award for 2023. This accolade celebrates educators who exemplify extraordinary dedication to instilling agricultural knowledge within their classrooms.
The award doesn’t solely honor exceptional agriculture teachers but recognizes educators going the extra mile to incorporate agricultural principles while teaching diverse subjects. It acknowledges their hard work, creativity, and commitment to nurturing children’s understanding of food origins. It also highlights the significance of agriculture in a broader context.
“We are thrilled to honor teachers who go above and beyond to educate students about agriculture’s crucial role in our lives,” says Beth Schaefer, Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom coordinator.
Schaefer says that Kamps’ initiatives began with engaging students in annual essay contests centered around understanding the importance of agriculture. Recognizing the natural correlation between agriculture and Wisconsin’s history, Kamps designed specialized summer school courses for grades K-5 and 6-8.
For educators interested in applying or nominating a deserving candidate for the 2024 Outstanding Teacher Award, the nomination process will open in early 2024. Visit their website for further details and to access the application when it becomes available later this spring.
