Dry weather early last week allowed for soybean and corn harvesting and winter wheat planting to continue. In total, Wisconsin farmers had nearly 5 suitable days for fieldwork.
The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reports the cool and wet weather later in the week maintained some soil moisture. Topsoil moisture rated 69 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 57 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.
Ninety-two percent of the corn crop was mature. The corn for grain harvest was 24 percent complete, two days ahead of last year but two days behind the average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was 23 percent. Corn condition was 50 percent good to excellent, equal to last week.
Corn for silage harvest was 96 percent complete, five days ahead of last year and a week ahead of the average.
Ninety-eight percent of soybeans are dropping leaves. The soybean harvest was 69 percent complete, a day behind last year but four days ahead of the average.
Eighty-six percent of the winter wheat crop has been planted. Sixty-one percent of the winter wheat crop has emerged, three days behind last year but a day ahead of the average. Winter wheat condition rated 65 percent good to excellent.
Ninety-five percent of the potato crop has been harvested, equal to last year and two days ahead of the average.
Pasture condition was rated 30 good to excellent statewide, equal to last week.
Fall tillage was 30 percent complete, nine days behind last year and two days behind the average.
