As America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin has numerous events that highlight the impact of dairy on our state. Those include dairy livestock shows and farm breakfasts during June dairy month to name a few.
A new event this year is the Art of the Cheese Festival. This event is hosted by the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and is taking place in downtown Madison September 29th – October 1st. Rachel Kerr from Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin shares that this event has been in the works for years.
“This was something we had actually dreamt up way back in 2020, but obviously put plans on pause for obvious reasons,” said Kerr. The event will celebrate the art and science of cheese making. There will be a cheese fair off the square that is free and open to the public. At this event, there will be cheese samples from 15 dairy companies for curious visitors to try.
While many events will be taking place in Madison, tours outside the city are planned. “We’re also visiting some various farms and bringing in the community there to help kind of show, again, that connection to agriculture,” said Kerr. Ticketed excursions include Upland Cheese in Dodgeville, Roth Cheese in Monroe, and Chalet Cheese in Monroe.
A unique event that is being offered is a Cheese Ball. At this event, 500 ticketed attendees will be able to enjoy live music, custom cocktails, and a cheese bar. Kerr believes that this will be the highlight of the whole festival.
Other unique events happening during the festival include a cheese themed yoga class and cheese board crafting classes. The goal is to provide something for everyone to enjoy. “We’re just trying to show off the best of Wisconsin and kind of showcase what we’re all about here,” said Kerr.
