As we soon head into the holiday weekend and September begins, it also comes with the Brooklyn Labor Day Truck and Tractor Pull the first through the third. But what really makes this event special is the two young men who are using the pulls for their senior project as they raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Cody Gillman and Timmy Lund are seniors at Evansville High School and chose this as their senior project because Cody actually has type 1 diabetes himself.
“I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was just 13 months old,” says Gillman. “JDRF has played an important part in my life and we would like to help do the same for other families who are living with type 1 diabetes.”
Gillman and Lund will be running the big and small block classes during the pulls on Saturday, September 2. The pulls begin at 10am with their classes slated to begin around 12pm. All entry money for these classes will be JDRF. They will also be raising funds through a 50-50 raffle.
“For us it’s about trying to show people that not everybody lives the same,” explains Lund. “Some people have different issues that they have to overcome and it can affect their whole family. It’s about showing people how they can help these families without having to actually know them or physically do something.”
