Trade missions are important opportunities for producers to learn more about how their partners operate while exploring ways to deepen their relationship. Members of the Wisconsin Soybean Association just visited the Port of Halifax in Halifax Nova Scotia to learn about Canadian port infrastructure.
One of the trip participants was Sara Stelter, President of the Wisconsin Soybean Association. She shared that Wisconsin soybean producers are excited about the possibility to export through the port.
“We’re in Canada looking at the potential for shipping Wisconsin soybeans from our new Milwaukee Lake Michigan ship loading facility to export markets,” Stelter said. This will provide access to export markets in Europe, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
It’s location as a deep water, ice-free port on the St. Lawrence Seaway make it ideal for shipping. Stelter also said, “they’re not as congested as a lot of the major ports.”
