It should make sense that Wisconsin, the land of bratwursts, would also be the national home for an essential condiment — mustard!
Just a few miles from where Mid-West Farm Report calls headquarters is the National Mustard Museum. Barry Levenson is the founder and curator of the museum, which has been around since 1992. He says the museum boasts more than 6,600 types, styles and flavors of the yellow condiment. They come from different continents and time periods.
Levenson says while Wisconsin may not be known for growing mustard seed, there are quite a few condiment manufacturers in the state, such as Silver Spring Foods in Eau Claire, who hosted Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in 2021.
We know the tasty yellow condiment plays well with Wisconsin bratwursts, but it’s also going to pair with ice cream and grilled cheese at the National Mustard Day Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 5. The event features hot dogs, brats, sampling, live music, and games all for a one-of-a-kind experience. The festivities will be at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton.
