County Fair season is in full swing across Wisconsin. There have been over a dozen counties that have already had their county fair and we are not even half way through county fair season.
Reports from the county fairs that have already taken place show an increase in the number of fairgoers. That is according to Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of Fairs, Jayme Buttke. Much of that is due to the absence of Covid, which affected attendance the past three years.
“People are out and about and I would say that over the last three years since we’ve come back from Covid, 2022 wasn’t quite back to what the standards were prior to Covid,” said Buttke.
In another positive development for county fairs, the State Legislature is looking to increase the amount of state funds for fair premiums from $450,000 to $650,000. This will allow county fairs to allocate funds for other necessary operating costs instead of funding premiums.
“It’s a really great thing for our fairs. It continues to help them encourage exhibits to take place,” Buttke said.
