Over the past few years, drones have been used more frequently in agriculture. A growing number of farmers are now using drones to spray crops and monitor overall crop health.
Andrew Tucker of Agri Spray Drones shares that drone technology isn’t going away anytime soon. The drones he works with are able to help farmers spray hard to reach fields and assist when manpower is needed elsewhere.
While drones may not be able to cover as much land as fast as a plane, there are benefits to using a drone. Typically, it comes down to size of the field or other obstacles that make it easier for a drone to overcome. “Usually it’s the terrain or you’ve got trees around the field. Sometimes you have residences around the field that we don’t want to send the planes directly over top of – that’s the perfect fit for a drone,” said Tucker.
As technology advances, so to will the drones efficiencies. According to Tucker, the technology isn’t going to end with autonomous drones in the sky.
“There is autonomous vehicles coming that are going to be able to plant, that are able to do tillage,” said Tucker. “Skies the limit on this technology.”
