This has been a challenging year for farmers as a result of drought conditions. Much of the state is now eligible for financial support because of the drought.
The UW-Extension Services is offering a virtual drought seminar to share resources available to farmers affected by the drought. Natasha Paris is a Regional Crops Educator for the Extension and involved with organizing the seminar. The offered a similar seminar in early June, but Paris says circumstances are very different now.
“The message really was ‘don’t panic yet’ because at the time we didn’t know what was going to happen,” said Paris. “Here we are and we now are in a situation where we have lost forage inventory and we’re looking ahead to how do we get through this fall, this winter, and what repercussions are there.”
The worsening situation is why another drought seminar is being offered. There will be several speakers touching on topics that include climate, disaster assistance, crops, and soil health.
The seminar will take place on Friday July 28th from 10:00am – 11:30am. To register for the online seminar, go to https://eventactions.com/eareg.aspx?ea=Rsvp&invite=0ahzj1t11bnwngmc0abe9w3kx46vaydahyjkutmb0xemc9mr3fdf
