World Dairy Expo will remain in Madison at the Alliant Energy Center the first week of October through 2028. A new, 5-year contract was signed at the Alliant Energy Center this morning.
Dane County and the Alliant Energy Center have hosted every World Dairy Expo since its inception in 1967.
“From the beginning, valued partnerships have built the foundation that World Dairy Expo stands on today,” says Laura Herschleb, WDE General Manager. “It has and will continue to be about the people coming together to celebrate and grow the global dairy community. We must never take for granted what an honor and privilege it is to host World Dairy Expo, the premier forum for the global dairy community to learn, share, create commerce and showcase competition.”
Last year’s event brought an estimated economic impact of $31.8 million in Dane County. It attracted over 54,500 attendees from nearly 90 countries. And the show housed over 2,600 of the best dairy cattle in North America.
The agreement between Dane County and World Dairy Expo includes an additional three option years. This creates a path for an 8-year extension.
“World Dairy Expo is a one-of-a-kind event and we are fortunate the absolute best in the dairy business want to keep coming to the place it all began,” says Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said. “This is an incredibly exciting day for Dane County and the entire Dairy State, and this news means the cows will keep coming right here to the place they’ve called home for over 56 years this fall.”
This year’s World Dairy Expo runs Oct. 1-6 with a theme of “Dynasty in Dairy.” Cattle at the event are housed in the nearly 300,000 square foot New Holland Pavilions. These opened just a few years ago at the Alliant Energy Center.
In the coming weeks, the Dane County Board will consider a resolution authorizing the county to execute the contract.
The contract includes dates for 2024-2028, with the option to extend the agreement for three additional one-year options for 2029-2031.
