Sporadic showers this past week helped crop growth, particularly in western portions of the state. But conditions are still dry across much of the state, causing poor crop and pasture conditions.
The latest crop progress and condition report from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says pasture condition was rated 35 good to excellent statewide. That’s down 1 percent from last week.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 29 percent very short, 42 percent short, and 29 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture condition rated 30 percent very short, 38 percent short, and 32 percent adequate.
Corn condition was 45 percent good to excellent, up 1 percent from last week.
Twenty-two percent of the soybean crop has bloomed, two days behind last year and four days behind the five-year average. Soybean condition rated 42 percent good to excellent, up 2 percent from last week.
The oat crop was 86 percent headed, five days ahead of last year and four days ahead of the average. Oat coloring was at 48 percent. Oat condition rated 46 percent good to excellent, down 3 percent from last week.
Winter wheat coloring was at 82 percent, two days ahead of last year and three days ahead of the average. Winter wheat condition was rated 58 percent good to excellent statewide, down 1 percent from last week.
The second cutting of alfalfa was reported at 69 percent complete, three days ahead of last year and six days ahead of the average. All hay condition was reported 41 percent good to excellent statewide, down 1 percent from last week.
