Reports of automakers removing AM radio from vehicles has pushed broadcasters, lawmakers and listeners to raise awareness. Farm news, weather and sports are just a few of the reasons more than 80 million Americans depend on radio.
A bill is circulating in Washington D.C. called the AM for Every Vehicle Act. It rules automakers keep AM radio in vehicles at no extra charge.
A majority of Wisconsin lawmakers are in support. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin is a cosponsor of the bill, which is both bipartisan and bicameral. In the House, U.S. Reps. Derrick Van Orden, Glenn Grothman, Tom Tiffany and Mark Pocan have signed on.

The AM For Every Vehicle Act Would:
— require automakers keep AM broadcast radio in vehicles at no extra charge
— require automakers tell consumers that a vehicle lacks access to AM radio if they sell vehicles without access to AM broadcast radio before the date of the regulation
— study if alternative communication systems can fully replicate the reach and effectiveness of AM broadcast radio during emergencies
