Wisconsin Farmers Union invites the community to an open house celebrating the development of the River Street building in downtown Chippewa Falls, officially named Market on River. Come get a taste of what is to follow for this beautiful riverfront property, which will soon house a food hall, meeting spaces, and apartments.
The event is July 11 from 4-6 p.m. at 128 W. River St., Chippewa Falls.
“When we set out to find a new home for our state headquarters, we knew we wanted to stay in Chippewa Falls, which has been home to Wisconsin Farmers Union since the 1940s,” says WFU Executive Director Julie Keown-Bomar. “What we didn’t expect was stumbling upon this stately historic gem, which holds so much potential as an anchor for this corner of the city.”
She says the building will not only be a new home for the WFU office space, but it will foster the local food scene, build community through gathering spaces, and create incubator space for up-and-coming Chippewa Falls businesses.
At the open house, attendees can learn about the rich history of the former Chippewa Valley Mercantile and hear how its timeless charm will carry over into renovations, which are set to begin this summer. Enjoy food, face painting, and games at this family-friendly event.
“We are thrilled to showcase this amazing building and its history to our community as well as advance the mission of the Wisconsin Farmers Union and our vision for the next chapter of Market on River, as we undergo the enhancement to our River Street corridor downtown Chippewa Falls,” says Jackie Boos, facilities director for WFU.
