The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) are hosting their 2023 Water Tours on July 13, 2023. The tours are a collaborative effort between Professional Dairy Producers®, UW Discovery Farms®, Wisconsin Counties Association, Wisconsin Towns Association and Pheasants Forever. Tours will open dialogue while showcasing current technologies and innovations being used to preserve one of the state’s most critical resources.
“Protecting our water supply is the responsibility of every member of the community, no matter where you live,” said Janet Clark, Eldorado, Wis., dairy producer and PDPW board vice president. “Participating in these tours is an incredible way to engage in solution-oriented dialogue and learn more about the practices already in place to ensure our water is safe for generations to come.”
The tour bus is departing from the Middleton, Wis., Park and Ride. The address is 4400 Parmenter St., Middleton, Wis. The bus will leave at 9:15 a.m. and return by 3:15 p.m. Tours are providing a firsthand look at the latest technologies while highlighting current practices implemented to protect water quality. Each stop will have an opportunity for discussion and idea sharing between water quality experts, tour hosts and attendees.
Tour stops will include:
- Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District’s Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant. Water from homes and businesses is drained and flushed while being transformed into clean water and renewable resources.
- EnTech Solutions Middleton Digester. Bovine manure is processed into biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) as a replacement for traditional transportation fuels.
- Blue Star Dairy. Meet the cows fueling the Middleton Digestor while learning how cows are being cared for.
Bus-travel time will also feature facilitated discussions with water-quality experts, researchers and more.
Pre-registration is required. Ticket cost of $49 includes bus travel, refreshments and lunch. To learn more about the 2023 Water Tours and to register, visit www.pdpw.org or contact PDPW at 800-947-7379.
