Drones will be flying at this year’s Farm Technology Days! Farm Tech Days is July 18-20 at the Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club in Baraboo. The Compeer Financial Drone Exhibit will show how farmers and ag-related professions can deploy drones to improve their operations.
Chippewa Valley Technical College will run the drone exhibit, which Compeer Financial is sponsoring. The exhibit is located at the far north end of the show grounds.
“The primary goals of the drone demonstrations will be to educate attendees on how drones are being adopted in the agriculture industry, the benefits of using a drone over traditional equipment, how to get started, receive training, and where to find drone equipment, along with license requirements,” says Shawn Creviston, Drone Certificate Program Instructor at CVTC.
Three one-hour demonstrations will take place each day of the show at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. In the demonstrations, one of the largest drones will apply chemicals and fertilizers to help maintain crops. The drones will also be flying in between these demonstrations throughout the show.
“We are proud to sponsor this event that showcases the latest and greatest in agriculture technology and research,” says Alison Kepner, Compeer Financial Officer.
Chippewa Valley Technical College offers a UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) Drone Certificate. This gives students a solid foundation in understanding unmanned aerial vehicle system technologies, capabilities, regulations, safety, and legal responsibilities.
The course covers: planning a UAV survey mission, data acquisition via the drone, andprocessing the data for developing reports, maps, or 3D models. The course can be contextualized to relate to the industry the student plans to operate in. These industries include agriculture, emergency services, architecture and marketing, to name a few.
