Sand County Foundation has named Dr. Haleigh Summers its Agricultural Geospatial Data Scientist.
Sand County Foundation, based in Wisconsin, is a national non-profit. It works at the intersection of agriculture and environmental improvement with farmers, ranchers, forestland owners and other land managers.
Summers will lead geospatial modeling efforts to target Sand County Foundation’s conservation initiatives. This effort will help improve soil health, water resources, and wildlife habitat.
“In addition to her experience with spatial analyses techniques to advance conservation management in Midwestern watersheds, Haleigh also understands the importance of explaining the potential economic benefits to farmers and landowners” said Dr. Heidi Peterson, Sand County Foundation Vice President of Agricultural Research and Conservation. “Haleigh has a rich appreciation for agriculture and the impact working together can have on advancing positive change across the landscape. I am excited to welcome her to our team.”
Summers recently completed her Ph.D. in sustainable agriculture and environmental science from Iowa State University. There she served as co-president of the Sustainable Ag Student Association. This past year she was elected treasurer of the Iowa Farmers Union.
Summers completed her Bachelor of Science in agronomy and seed science from Iowa State University. She holds a master’s degree in agronomy from The Pennsylvania State University. She resides in Ames, Iowa.
