Wisconsin egg production in May has surpassed production of any month in both 2021 and 2022. This is according to the latest chickens and eggs report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Wisconsin egg production during May was 218 million eggs, up 64 percent from the previous May.
The average number of all layers on hand during May in Wisconsin was 8.26 million, up 62 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for May was 2,642, up 1 percent from a year ago.
Iowa, Ohio and Indiana are the largest egg producing states.
Looking at the entire U.S., egg production totaled 9.37 billion during May, up 4 percent from last year. The average number of layers during May totaled 387 million, up 5 percent from last year. May egg production per 100 layers was 2,419 eggs, down 1 percent from May 2022. Total layers in the U.S. on June 1 totaled 386 million, up 5 percent from last year.
