Over 700 youth and 3,700 sheep from 32 states are in Madison for the largest youth sheep show in the country. The All-American Junior Sheep Show is running June 28th through July 2nd. The show is in the New Holland Pavilions at the Alliant Energy Center.
This is the 3rd time in the shows 29 year history that it has been held in Wisconsin. In addition to the show there is a judging contest, Ag Olympics, virtual shearing competition, and a skill a thon.
Dave Trotter has been announcing at the show for 27 years and is a member of the planning committee. Trotter believes that the the number of youth showing is growing. “We have continually seen an increase in the interest of young people and their families and this is a family project and we see that interest growing year after year” said Trotter.
Addisen Nicholson is a high school junior and traveled all the way from Connecticut to show. Nicholson shows sheep all across the country with shows beginning now and going until November. When asked what her favorite part of showing is, Nicholson said that “I just love the experience and the good values it’s taught us like hard work and responsibility.”
The show is free and open to the public.
