Alsum Farms & Produce is one of the largest producers of potatoes and other produce in the state. This year they are celebrating 50 years of being in business. Alsum’s will celebrate by hosting two days of events open to the community at their facilities.
Christine Lindner, Marketing Manager for Alsum Farms, shares that Alsum will be holding events on Friday August 11th and Saturday August 12th. Lindner said of the celebration, “It’s really a chance to reflect on some humble beginnings, growth, and innovation along with the people and partnerships from our farm side to our produce buyers.”
Friday will consist of a plant tour at their production facility in Friesland. Saturday will include a 5k, a farm fresh produce market, educational booths, and a short recognition program led by Larry Alsum, President and CEO. Following the recognition program, a tour of the Alsum potato and pumpkin farms at their Grand Marsh location.
Alsum Farms is familiar with organizing events for the community. For the past 5 years they have hosted a “Tater Trot” 5k Run at their Friesland location. Proceeds from the 5k support local FFA Chapters and participants have the opportunity to shop produce from area vendors. This will be their final year of hosting the Tater Trot 5k and they will be transitioning to a scholarship. This scholarship will be for youth interested in pursuing agricultural careers in food production.
Alsum Farms & Produce is looking forward to welcoming at least 250 people to their community celebration.
