Wisconsin had 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending June 18, 2023, according to the USDA’s
National Agricultural Statistics Service. While some precipitation was received in areas, dry conditions are reported to be affecting row crop growth and the growth of the second hay crop.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 34 percent very short, 37 percent short, 29 percent adequate and 0 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 23 percent very short, 39 percent short, 38 percent adequate and 0 percent surplus.
Ninety-four percent of the corn crop has emerged, 5 days ahead of last year and 4 days ahead of the 5-year average. Corn condition was 50 percent good to excellent, down 16 percent from last week.
Ninety-four percent of the soybean crop has emerged, 9 days ahead of last year and 12 days ahead of the average. Soybean condition was 52 percent good to excellent, down 10 percent from last week.
Ninety-five percent of the oat crop has emerged. The oat crop was 44 percent headed, 10 days ahead of last year and six days ahead of the average. Oat condition was 48 percent good to excellent, down 23 percent from last week.
Winter wheat was 88 percent headed, seven days ahead of last year and 9 days ahead of the average. The coloring was at 9 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 48 percent good to excellent statewide, down 18 percent from last week.
The first cutting of alfalfa was reported at 95 percent complete, 11 days ahead of last year and 12 days ahead of the average. The second cutting of alfalfa was reported at 5 percent complete. All hay condition was reported 43 percent good to excellent statewide, down 22 percent from last week.
Pasture condition was rated 39 good to excellent statewide, down 19 percent from last week.
