Aren’t we all guilty of it? We heard what the meteorologist had to say, but they’re only correct about 50% of the time, right?!
Let’s take a step behind the scenes and find out what really goes into creating that forecast. Is it easier to forecast the next 24 hours, or the next 5 days? How much weather data is available in Wisconsin? What does a weather balloon really do? These are all the questions Pam Jahnke decided to launch on NOAA Lead Meteorologist, Scott Berschback, during a visit to the weather site just across the street from Austin Straubel airport in Green Bay.
While visiting the office, she had a chance to witness a weather balloon launch and learned how the technology has changed, but is still incredibly important to forecasters. Berschback also explained what information he looks for, almost immediately, from the weather balloon (which is launched twice daily – every day of the year including winter).
We’re all currently worried about the possibility of a major drought across the state. So are the meteorologist’s watching patterns for us! Give a listen to what you didn’t know about forecasting for Wisconsin’s weather, with Scott Berschback.
