The Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Foundation (WROF), Inc. is honored to announce six recipients of their Premier Scholarship Awards Program, providing high school seniors from rural Wisconsin a total of $13,000 for tuition and educational expenses for postsecondary educational experiences.
The recipient of the Premier 2023 Scholarship Award of $5,000 is David Thompson, Woodville, WI. David’s knack for taking machines apart and putting them back together has led him to pursue a degree in engineering at UW-Stout and to tie it together with his agricultural background. He looks forward to giving back to the agricultural industry that has helped shape the person he is today. David graduates from Baldwin-Woodville High School in Baldwin, WI.
Ava Endres, Waunakee, WI, and Brandon Boyd, Watertown, WI are each the recipients of the $2,500 Premier 2023 Scholarship Award. Inspired by growing up on her family’s dairy farm and the connection between the environment and how to enrich the land and the animals that feed our communities, Ava is on a path to becoming a physician. She will be majoring in Biology and earning a certificate in Spanish at UW-Madison. Ava was given the honor to speak at the recent holiday tree lighting ceremony at the Wisconsin Capital by Governor Tony Evers. Ava will graduate from Waunakee Community High School. Brandon’s love of farming, especially growing crops, has inspired him to earn a degree in Agronomy and Agricultural Education. Inspired by his family farm, Brandon hopes to learn how to maximize crop production and improve all aspects of agricultural production. Brandon also aspires to teach farmers improved farming practices and to share his knowledge about agriculture with people outside the industry to bring an understanding of where their food comes from. Brandon graduates from Watertown High School.
Cole Meier, Monroe, WI; Kortney Sebranek, Lone Rock, WI; and Lucas Kramer, Wauzeka, WI, are the recipients of the $1,000 Premier Scholarship Awards. Tied to his roots in rural Wisconsin, Cole is looking forward to studying electrical power distribution at Southwest Technical College so that he can fulfill his dream of becoming a linesman. Cole graduates from Monroe High School. Working on her family’s beef and dairy farm, Kortney became interested in the health of farm animals. She will be studying pre-veterinary medicine at UW-Platteville to become a large-animal veterinarian. Kortney feels having a close and trusting relationship with clients is crucial in ensuring animal care. Kortney will be graduating from River Valley High School in Spring Green, WI. Having been raised on a small, diversified dairy and beef farm, Lucas hopes to keep agriculture moving forward by earning a degree in Agriculture Engineering or Systems Technology, working with technology advancements in the dairy industry or with farm equipment. Lucas graduates from Prairie du Chien High School.
