There’s well compensation money available for Wisconsinites. The DNR got about $10 million last year to help people replace their contaminated well, install treatment or finance the abandonment of a well that’s no longer needed.
Marty Nessman is the private water supply section manager with the DNR in the Bureau of Drinking Water and Groundwater. He says there’s roughly $7.5 million left, and the DNR has another year and a half to distribute the money.
The dollars come from the American Rescue Plan Act. Applicants could get up to $16,000 to replace, reconstruct, treat or abandon your well or water system. You might be eligible to apply if: you own a private well or non-community water system; your annual family or business income is $100,00 or less; your well or water system is contaminated with nitrate, arsenic, fecal bacteria or PFAS; or yo have not begun work on your well or water system yet.
The application period ends in December of 2023. Apply here: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/aid/WellCompensation.html
