Looking for a fun way to support Wisconsin farmers and the state’s farm to school activities? Then sign up now for the Wisconsin Chili Lunch, taking place at noon on Thursday, February 23, 2022. This event was created to help connect farmers with schools and educate students about where their food comes from.
It’s simple and easy to participate: register for free at cias.wisc.edu/our-events/chililunch/, purchase local ingredients, and make your Wisconsin Chili Lunch on February 23. Participants are encouraged to take photos of their Wisconsin Chili Lunch and share them on social media, and with their school and community.
“We have a couple ways that schools and farmers make connections,” says Susan Bostian-Young, nutrition program consultant on the school nutrition team at DPI and a farm to school specialist. “We put out a chili lunch guide each year that offers local food sourcing and utilize the AmeriCorps Wisconsin Local Foods Database. This database allows farmers to list themselves and the products they have to sell and schools can also list themselves and say what it is they’re looking to purchase.”
