The North American Maple Syrup Council is participating in a USDA ACER grant-funded project aimed at helping sugarmakers understand and reduce their environmental impact.
The first step of the project is collecting data from producers and processors this spring. These data will then be used to build an online calculator for any producer to estimate their own greenhouse gas emissions and receive suggested strategies to reduce these emissions.
To learn more about how to participate, join one of the two upcoming webinars on Jan. 4 and 7, where the lead researcher Geoff Lewis from the University of Michigan will describe this maple syrup life cycle inventory project and go over the data he’s looking to collect from as well as what information the project will be providing back to those who choose to share their data.
