Snow may have impeded the last of the corn harvest this month, but above normal temps this past week melted the white. While that snow melt left some fields muddy and difficult to access, fall tillage and corn harvest continued on fields that were dry enough — or frozen.
Harvest of corn for grain was 87 percent complete, 12 days behind last year, according to the last crop progress report from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was 18 percent — down a percentage point from last week.
Fall tillage was 83 percent complete, six days behind last year.
The snow melt didn’t raise soil moistures — topsoil moisture condition rated 81 percent adequate to surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 78 percent adequate to surplus.
Winter wheat condition was rated 83 percent good to excellent statewide, unchanged from last week.
