The third annual Something Special From Wisconsin (SSfW) Holiday Market is rolling into the Johnson Creek Elementary/High School this weekend. Lois Federman, SSfW coordinator at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says she’s very excited for this years event. It will feature more vendors then ever before – focused entirely on Wisconsin based products.
The SSfW program stretches back to 1983, when effort began to really recognize those products/services that were uniquely connected to Wisconsin agriculture and food ingredients.
SSfW members are local producers of all shapes and sizes, certifying that at least 50% of a product’s ingredients, production, or processing is from or completed in Wisconsin. The recognizable red and yellow program logo provides a quick and reliable way for consumers to identify high-quality member products at grocery stores, retail outlets, farmers’ markets, and restaurants throughout the state. That logo also gives the product a certain level of credibility.
Program participants do pay an annual fee for the marketing and promotion opportunity provided by SSfW. The annual fee is based on annual sales and ranges from $0 for non-profits to $200 for companies grossing $500,000 or more.
Something Special from Wisconsin members get benefits that include use of the recognizable trademark on their products, access to member-only events, educational webinars, and resources, and additional publicity in program marketing activities including a business profile on the SSfW website. Member companies are also featured throughout the year in numerous media stories and on social media.
