Wisconsin is in the middle of the fall tourism season. The Department of Tourism invites people to make memories of a lifetime with friends and family and enjoy these moments that are readily available in Wisconsin.
Anne Sayers, Secretary-designee of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, shares more about what the department is doing to support Wisconsin agritourism destinations and the importance of the agriculture industry.
In 2021, Wisconsin surged back from the difficult pandemic year. Tourism is a $20.9 billion industry for Wisconsin and welcomed more than 102 million visitors in 2021. This resulted in every single county in Wisconsin having double-digit economic impact growth over the prior year.
“While tourism is about welcoming visitors and making sure they are making the best memories in Wisconsin, it is also about making sure that our local communities benefit from that as well,” said Sayers. “I feel like right now we’re doing those things and I’m excited for the future.”
Agriculture comes naturally to Wisconsin so it is important when marketing to be authentic and highlight the heritage of this industry. Many businesses open their doors to travelers and help them feel at home and discover Wisconsin agriculture as well as be in the moment.
Sayers says the Department of Tourism is supporting agritourism destinations by featuring them in advertising, providing grant programs, and providing insight into how they can attract more visitors and get money into their communities.
“We are truly a four-season offering state. In terms of agriculture, farm to table happens 365 days a year and we are committed to supporting those destinations every day,” adds Sayer.
