A look at Wisconsin’s average commodity prices for July is here, including the all-milk price. It’s falling, but it’s still well above last year’s price.
The average price for milk was $24.30 per hundred pounds, $1.90 below the June price but $6.40 above July 2021. These figures come from the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service agricultural prices report. The U.S. all milk price for July was $25.70 per hundred pounds, $1.40 higher than Wisconsin’s price but $1.20 lower than last month’s U.S. price.
Broker analyst Matt Tranel with ever.ag tells Farm Director Pam Jahnke that the dairy markets are starting to notice changes in consumer buying patterns. Both Walmart and Dollar General have announced that they’re seeing an uptick in customers with a household income over $80,000, suggesting people are trading down to save money:
Meanwhile, the average price received by farmers for corn during July 2022 in Wisconsin was $6.75 per bushel. This was 30 cents below the June price but 71 cents above July 2021.
The July 2022 average price received by farmers for soybeans, at $15.20 per bushel, was 90 cents below the June price but $1 above the July 2021 price.
The July average oat price per bushel, at $5.06, was 25 cents below June but $1.91 above July 2021.
All hay prices in Wisconsin averaged $132 per ton in July. This was $12 below the June price and $22 below the July 2021 price. The July 2022 alfalfa hay price, at $144, was $6 below the previous month and $28 below July 2021. The average price received for other hay during July was $104 per ton. This was $7 below the June price and $4 below July last year.
