It’s been just about a month since Dr. Glenda Gillaspy assumed duties as the new Dean of the College of Agriculture on the UW-Madison campus. She took time to visit with Farm Director, Pam Jahnke, about the path that led her to Madison, and what she hopes to focus on during her tenure.
Gillaspy grew up in Alabama but really didn’t have any inkling that agriculture would be part of her career. She did have some 4-H involvement and was involved with the Girl Scouts, but she says her love of plants actually happened later in her life.
Fast forward to her arrival on the UW-Madison campus. Gillaspy says she’s impressed by the diversity that the College of Ag offers. She’s also well aware of the stellar reputation in academics that CALS reflects. Although she wasn’t previously aware of the “Wisconsin Idea” – it’s something that resonates with her educational philosophy.
Gillaspy is working to try to meet stakeholders as her schedule allows. She’s also very focused on attracting top notch students to the UW CALS campus.
Listen to the complete conversation with Pam Jahnke and find out more about her hopes for the future.
