It’s no doubt that raising and showing livestock help exhibitors develop key skills. However, the skills that are gained extend far beyond the show ring and the week-long fair.
Kinsley Wetzel is a Senior member of the Turtle 4-H Club, and she shows cattle and sheep at the Rock County 4-H Fair. Wetzel shares more about the work she puts in year-round with her animals and how she plans to take the skills she’s gained with her in the future.
Wetzel says that she works with her cattle every day by cleaning them, feeding them, and working with them. This balance between raising livestock and maintaining school and work has pushed her to develop a good work ethic and time management skills.
Once the fair rolls around, the work multiplies, and it makes for a pretty hectic week. Wetzel mentions that the beef show started at 8 am, but she was at the fair before 6 am prepping her cattle for the show.
Looking ahead, Wetzel hopes to take the experiences she’s had and continue to educate people about agriculture. She says that its important for people to gain an understanding of the agriculture industry and know where their food came from.
