WALSAA is the Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Formed in 1972, WALSAA is celebrating 50 years of dedication to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS).
WALSAA President, Taylor Fritsch, talks about the 1600 alumni membership base that come together to network, enjoy fellowship and raise scholarship funds for current CALS students.
In addition to scholarships, WALSAA provides financial support for CALS ambassadors which is a student group that helps promote the college at various events and meets with prospective students. Taylor mentioned that WALSAA is also active in supporting advising within the college to help students find their desired career path.
“Receiving a WALSAA scholarship was crucial in allowing me to pursue my education at UW-Madison in agricultural economics and communications,” stated Fritsch. “With that support I came to understand the importance of a strong alumni network.”
Fritsch added that WALSAA helps to foster a network between the college, alumni, current faculty and current students in support of a common goal. He believes that the fact they’ve had such a long standing group of alumni who work relatively independently from the college that partners with staff to help make programming possible is why WALSAA is unique.
