The Wisconsin berry season is well underway, and growers are finding unique ways to stretch their season and get ahold of supplies.
Ed Bures, owner of Bures Berry Patch, says that expanding the strawberry variety selection on farms helps vary ripening times and extends picking season. This allows growers to keep their operations open for longer periods during the summer.
He says that you-pick berry operations grew in popularity during the pandemic, because they were a great way for community members to get outside with their families.
You-pick operations remain open at Bures, and in terms of supplies, the only thing Ed says he had challenges getting ahold of were portable restrooms.
