Summer is in full force in Wisconsin, and with that comes high temperatures and increased severe weather activity. Although the weather is unpredictable, there are ways that people can protect themselves against these events.
Andrew Beckett, Public Information Officer for Wisconsin Emergency Management in the Ready Wisconsin Campaign, shares more about the effects of heat and how people can stay safe in heat waves and storms this summer.
Beckett explains that when the heat index creeps above 100 degrees, time spent outdoors should be limited. He says that if people must be outside, it is important to establish a schedule with breaks factored in.
As for severe weather, Beckett says the biggest rule of thumb is to have multiple methods set up to receive weather alerts to stay informed.
