With conservation in mind, some dairy farmers are changing their farm management practices.
Jacob Brey shares how his farm, Brey Cycle Farm in Door County, utilizes cover crops, low disturbance manure injection, rotational grazing and alternative forages to improve environmentally, and to also remain more financially viable.
Turning cover crops into forages for their animals has allowed them to make their land more productive, Brey says.
Planting winter crops and growing year round has also expanded their window for spreading manure, says Brey, and has made their land work better for both themselves and their animals.
