AWA Keeps Ag Alive On Campus

With in-person contact limited last year, some students took that as an opportunity to reach even more people with their agriculture education efforts. The Association of Women in Agriculture at UW-Madison, who hosted virtual events all of last year, plans to bring one of their largest fundraisers back to campus later this spring.

Grace Vos and Clarissa Gross, Juniors at UW-Madison and committee members for AWA’s 26th Annual Breakfast on the Farm, say their challenge this year is with involvement.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, AWA was forced to cancel their BOTF event in 2020, and hosted a virtual event in 2021 to align with on-campus restrictions. This year’s chair team has never run an in-person Breakfast on the Farm, and Vos says they are starting from scratch in terms of planning and preparation.

They still plan to offer a hearty, farm-style breakfast with live music, a petting zoo and agriculture education stations for attendees to “celebrate those who work in acres, not hours.” Vos and Gross say the event may look different from years past, but AWA members still plan to keep the excitement about agriculture alive on campus for years to come.

The event is tentatively scheduled for May 1st, 2022 and will be hosted by AWA members on campus. For more information on this year’s AWA Breakfast on the Farm, visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/AWABOTF.
