A successful gun hunting season for the Klinkner family! Deer hunting is considered a family tradition at our house. Growing up, all of us kids learned how to hunt, but now only my dad, brothers and I hunt in our woods. This year, my boyfriend joined us and sat with me. Opening day, all of us who went hunting saw a few deer but couldn’t get any good shots. Sunday of opening weekend, my brother Justin shot an 8-point buck. No one else had any luck opening weekend, but you know, there were still more days left of the season. I had to go back to school Monday and Tuesday, but when I came back home Wednesday, I went back out to the woods. I didn’t go out until 2 but by 3:45, I saw a group of does. I waited to see if a buck was following, but one never came, so I picked the biggest doe out of the group and shot. Down she went! She was a good size full grown doe, so I was pretty happy. On Saturday, some of my family and a neighbor of ours did a deer drive through our woods. Four of us walked and two sat, I was one of the walkers. We kicked up a lot of deer and my dad was able to shoot an 8-pointer and a doe, and my brother-in-law show a doe as well.
Hunting with family is one of my favorite family traditions. It’s a time where we bond with each other and create new memories. It’s fulfilling when you harvest a deer to put food in your freezer.
I hope all of the other hunters had a successful season this year!
