It’s getting colder, so that means it’s time to turn on the heat. How do you heat your home? Do you use a wood stove? A fireplace? Pellet stove? Wood boiler? An electric stove?
No matter how you choose to heat your home, there are many pros and cons to each method. Some pros to wood stoves are that they are highly efficient, have high heat output, produce lower emissions, and sustain longer fires. Some cons are the cost of purchase and cost of installation. Some pros of a pellet stove are that they are highly efficient, eco-friendly, budget-friendly, and clean-burning. Some cons to pellet stoves are that they tend to be noisy, and they require electricity.
On our farm, we heat our house with an outdoor wood boiler. In fact, this weekend when I came home to visit, I had to help my dad pile wood. Each fall, my dad and brother go to the valley and chop wood for our family and my brother’s family’s wood boilers. We enjoy our wood boilers because they are safer, since they are outdoors, cleaner, have better heat control, and are more affordable.
