Many counties across Wisconsin are creating ‘Camp in a Box’ programs for youth that are missing in-person, overnight 4-H camp experiences. Columbia and Green Counties 4-H have joined forces to produce and distribute ‘Camp in a Box’ for both 4-H members and non-4-H members.
Green and Columbia Counties ‘Camp in a Box’ includes a box with over 12 different activities in it, directions on how to reflect and share results from the activities, and online sessions lead by 4-H Leaders, Upham Woods and local volunteers to provide more learning and development opportunities to youth. Youth do not have to take part in the online portion of this program, Green and Columbia County 4-H realize that online learning is something that many students will be doing this fall, so they have made it optional to the program.
Pat Wagner, the Columbia County 4-H Positive Youth Development Extension Educator described the program as, “an alternative to our residential camping program. It’s designed to help youth have fun while exploring new opportunities, discovering skills and giving back to their community.”
