So far, the year 2020 has been chocked full of challenge and change – virtual school, zoom meetings, working from home and dinner around the table. For many, it has also been a year of disappointment, sadness and hard life lessons. As summer approached, families were hopeful that graduation ceremonies, pool outings and ‘the summer before college’ would be back on schedule while local livestock families set their sights on county fairs, state fairs and livestock sales. Although this may seem silly to some, these livestock kids have stayed the course, continuing their commitment to the steers they purchased last fall and the pigs and wethers they purchased this spring. As you are aware, the COVID 19 pandemic has forced many fairs across the state and nation to cancel. As these cancellations started to hit closer to home, our local 4H and FFA kids (that started their livestock projects well before COVID 19 hit) were starting to lose hope in any local show or sale in 2020. However, show or no show, sale or no sale, these kids are still caring for and feeding their livestock every day – and hanging onto a glimmer of hope that there might yet, be an opportunity to show and sell.
In order to give these kids (that normally exhibit and sell livestock at Dane, Columbia, Lodi or Stoughton Fair(s)) this opportunity, a group of parents from both counties (that would be us) have organized a one day jackpot show to be held on July 18th, 2020 at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point, WI. All market livestock, including dairy steers and all breeding stock are welcome to show at this event. The kids will pay an entry fee that will be used to cover our expenses and once covered, all remaining money will be distributed to the exhibitors. To this we are committed!
Through assistance from The State Bank of Cross Plains, we have set up an account, established a “Purple Ribbon Fund”, and are soliciting sponsors that would like to advertise with us as well as support the overall program. As a group of parents, we are not a 501(3)(c) corporation so we are selling advertising spots. All advertising funds collected will be distributed to the exhibitors of market animals in lieu of a livestock sale. Each advertiser will receive recognition on our social media sites as well as receiving a graphic they can post on their own sites. Additionally, each advertiser will receive a group photo of all exhibitor’s worthy of displaying in your place of business or home.
Lastly, each advertiser will be continually recognized during all three specie shows, and banners, listing our advertisers, will hang in the show rings. If we are successful with a few radio spots and local media coverage, we will shout your name out there as well!
As 2020 has been challenging for most businesses, we understand the enormity of what we are proposing and want you to know any advertising sponsorship is greatly appreciated and will directly benefit the kids producing beef, pork and lamb. We have defined a few levels of advertising with gifts of appreciation and have listed them below:
