According to the latest Wisconsin crop progress report, spring tillage was 91% complete, 27 days ahead of last year and 15 days ahead of the 5-year average. Corn planting was 81% complete while soybean planting was 61% complete. Compare that to last year and producers are light years ahead of where they were last year.
“What a difference a year makes,” says Brad Grunnink, Valent’s Territory Manager for Wisconsin. “Last year we were literally spinning our wheels trying to get stuff planted.” Grunnink says that he believes the early planting will be beneficial for any crop, whether that be corn or soybeans or anything else producers are planting. For soybeans in particular, he says the yield potential in 2020 will be much greater than that it was in 2019. Last year beans were being planted about two months later than they are right now.
As a result, grower confidence is pretty high as the first of June nears. “Attitudes are good in spite of the bleak market outlook,” Grunnink explains. “It always helps when you are able to get stuff done and feel good about it…get things in the ground in a timely manner” is always a boost of confidence for any producer.
The good folks at Valent are here for Wisconsin producers every step of the way .
