More than 120 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have sent a letter to President Trump to express their concerns about how the financial aid to farmers is being distributed.
Representatives said in the letter they don’t like federal support payment limitations being used for livestock and crop farmers. They say this is no time for such limits, and that those policies are for Farm Bill debates.
The letter’s authors also contend that, if the payments are truly emergency payouts, they should be large enough to support the total agricultural industry and need to be sent out in proportion to production, risk and losses. They said producers of all crops should be included in any emergency payments.
An updated ruling from the Treasury Department and the Small Business Administration says farmers and other agricultural producers are eligible for those small business rescue loans under the Payroll Protection Program.
