The Monday morning rain slowed things down a good amount throughout the region and, while we all know the importance of every moment counting this time of the year, some farming friends and I agreed that the day’s light spring rain is OK.
Such a day could bring a sense of nervousness after the rain that started last spring and simply never seemed to end throughout the entire 2019 cropping season.
The weekend gave us a small taste of the good weather we’re hoping for during this planting season. Some tractors and planters got their first exercise of the year as early planting got under way. It’s challenging
to consider the need for slowing down for a day or two of rain once that itch starts getting scratched – the act of scratching itches generally leading to more itching.
Forecasters are promising the sun will again shine in a couple of days, so hope for a good planting season still is in place.
The Zerks are greased, the fuel tanks have been filled and the planters are been given a final check. The land is getting all set for us to get under way.
It’s time to roll — right after this bit of rain moves out.
