Livestock haulers are being allowed to increase the number of hours they may drive during a day.
The federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has exempted livestock-truck drivers from complying with the federal hours-of-service rules. That exemption will be in place until at least April 12.
In making the ruling, MCSA officials said drivers going beyond normal hourly regulations should carry copies of the ruling in their trucks’ cabs.
The ruling is designed to give relief to drivers hauling food and raw materials intended to be used for food, and federal officials are saying livestock falls into that category.
