So much is available to see, and so much information is available to gather at a farm show.
There wouldn’t be farm shows without the exhibitors, who are hoping to show people attending the shows all of their new products and perhaps increase some sales. But farm shows are much more than that basic part of our agricultural industry.
I was reminded during this week’s Marshfield Mall Farm Show how those events also serve the simple role of providing a place in which people from across the countryside can get together and talk with each other. Those events are true community gatherings.
It might be with a neighbor you haven’t talked with during the past couple of days; it might be with an old friend whom you haven’t seen for several years. The talk might be how the past growing season went, or about herd health; it might be about who’s retiring and who’s taken over which farm. Or, the discussions might be about the weather.
Whatever the discussions, there’s a certain amount of refreshing-of-the-spirit that goes on at those shows.
And, of course, there are plenty of folks who manage to find something new for their farms or farmyards.
We look forward to seeing you at our next farm show — the Eau Claire Farm Show March 3-4 at the Eau Claire Exposition Center. We’ll be happy to talk.
