Dairy Expert Expresses Optimism for Markets in 2020

Dairy Expert Expresses Optimism for Markets in 2020

Dr. Bob Cropp, Professor Emeritus and Dairy Marketing Specialist at UW-Madison, says that after years of bad news for dairy there are plenty of reasons to feel good about the industry as the calendar nears 2020.

“We’re seeing a very strong comeback in milk prices,” Dr. Cropp explains, saying prices are approaching what we saw back in 2014. “Quite a rally,” he says. After nearly five years of lousy prices, Cropp deems 2020 as a year that things could start looking up. “Domestic demand is pretty good and we can actually see a little growth in exports next year,” he adds. Cropp attributes higher exports in 2020 to a lack of growing milk production overseas in countries such as Argentina and Australia. That is a huge opportunity for the US market, he says.
