Wisconsin’s corn and soybean crops remain behind schedule for maturity.
This week’s U.S. Department of Agriculture Crop Progress Report says 49 percent of the state’s corn is mature, with 94 percent in the dough stage and 84 percent dented, which is behind average progress.
The grain-corn harvest started during the past week, with the report saying 3 percent of the corn had been combined by Sunday. Farmers also have harvested 48 percent of their corn silage, it said.
Corn was rated in the report as 62 percent good to excellent.
The state’s soybean crop was rated 68 percent good to excellent, with 78 percent of the soybean plants dropping leaves and 15 percent of the beans harvested.
The progress report said 71 percent of the fourth-crop hay has been harvested, with 12 percent of fall tillage and 37 percent of winter wheat planting completed.
Topsoil moisture for the week was rated at 100 percent adequate to surplus, with no areas of the state reporting dry conditions.
