It may only be September 4th, but Wisconsin farmers have already started the harvest!
According to the Wisconsin Ag Statistical service, corn silking was reported at 92 percent complete. Sixty-one percent of corn has reached the dough stage, 14 days behind last year and 11 days behind the 5-year average. Eighteen percent of corn was dented, 13 days behind last year and 10 days behind the average. Corn condition was 66 percent good to excellent, up 5 percentage points from last week. Silage harvest has begun, with 2 percent reported complete.
Soybeans blooming was reported at 92 percent, 20 days behind both the last year and the average. Eighty-one percent of soybeans were setting pods, 18 days behind the average. Leaves were coloring on 5 percent of the state’s soybeans, 12 days behind last year and 8 days behind the average. Soybean condition was 70 percent good to excellent, 5 percentage points above last week.
Winter wheat harvest was reported as 98 percent complete. Planting has begun with 2 percent reported planted.
Ninety-six percent of oats were coloring or beyond. Oats were 73 percent harvested, 9 days behind last year and 11 days behind the average. Potato harvest was reported as 19 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 9 days behind the average.
Potato condition was 85 percent good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week. The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 79 percent complete, 11 days behind the average. The fourth cutting was 19 percent complete, 10 days behind both last year and the average.
All hay condition was reported 63 percent in good to excellent condition, 7 percentage points above last week.
Pasture condition was rated 65 percent in good to excellent condition, up 5 percentage points from last week.
