The Eau Claire County Board is scheduled tonight to have its first reading of the county’s confined animal feeding operations ordinance, following a series of hearings about the ordinance during the past week.
The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Eau Claire County Courthouse in Eau Claire.
The CAFO ordinance’s second and final reading by the board is expected during its June meeting.
In March, the board extended until June a moratorium the board had placed on CAFO development within the county, so that the working group developing the ordinance could have more time to finalize it. The moratorium was put into place in October and originally was scheduled to expire in April.
County land conservation director Greg Leonard said the ordinance reflects state CAFO regulations; the county has one CAFO.
